The Regional Tournament Concept

Definition: The hosting of Pool Checkers Tournaments, matches, and other pool checkers related activities in different cities, (regions) at defined intervals, throughout the year.

Rationale: In the past, Pool Checkers players have been limited to just one annual APCA tournament to satisfy their competitive zeal. If the Game is to be preserved, there must be some kind of on-going activity to satisfy this zeal, to hold on to it, and generate new interest.

Purpose: To insure that the Game becomes and on-going entity by making it available for the inclusion of new adherents and to include the involvement of the youths of the community.

Proposal: I am proposing that the Family of Pool Checkers Players form a Regional group that will provide the kind of activity offered in the Rational.

Components: I am suggesting, for now, five Regions. The following Regions and it’s cities/clubs will be formed.

Northeastern Region (NE)

Flint, MI.; Detroit, MI.; Toledo, OH.; Columbus, OH.

Midwestern Region (MW)

Chicago, Il.; St. Louis, MO.; Indianapolis, IN.; South Bend, IN.

Eastern Region (E)

New York, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore, MD.; Winston Salem, N.C.;

Southern Region (S)

Atlanta, Ga.; Memphis, TN.; Jacksonville, Fl.; Macon, GA.

Western Region (W)

Los Angeles, CA.; Houston, TX.

Remember, the above suggestions are just that -“suggestions.” If a particular city/club is not included, it can be placed wherever is most appropriate. Nothing is ’etched in stone.’ There can be additions, deletions, or enhancements wherever is necessary.

Each Region would be requested to have a club or individual (s) from one of it’s cities to host a Tournament, Match, or an Activity on an annual basis.

The idea would be to have a calendar prepared on an approximate two months intervals, or whenever is convenient. While there could be no approval or disapproval as to when an entity would provide the activity, the Regional Group would just try to help coordinate those activities such that each could get the maximum exposure.

Ideally, there would be a tournament or activity, annually-in January, April,  June, (July would be open because of the annual APCA Tournament), September , November.

If there is interest, a calendar can be offered, and each Region can indicate a particular time it's interested in.

The Chicago Open, that we are having in April of 2005 could be our Regional Tournament and hopefully could be a model for tournaments in the future.

We have a wealth of communications modes , such as, www.hspccc.com and http://americanpoolcheckers,us, the e-mail tool ,along with the traditional means of communications to make this venture work.

A Special Edition!!

Homan Square (Chicago) travels to Indianapolis and Falls

A team of Club members (14 in all) traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for a Regional match shootout but was defeated by the host.  In a series of ten- games matches, the Club came up short as far as the competition was concerned but won out anyway by making many friends in the process.

The camaraderie was what is was all about.  There were no trophies, or great cash  prizes given out, nor was there any complaints about this fact.  That wasn’t the goal.  But we kept score anyway just for the sake of posterity. .

The format was, The Homan Square (Chicago)  team would play a ten games match with each host and any visitors that came.  Visitors came from South Bend, Toledo, and Dayton.  They were asked to play on the Indianapolis team.  The individual match scores are given below.
