THE AMERICAN
POOL CHECKERS ASSOCIATION
42ND ANNUAL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
The American
Pool Checkers
Association (APCA) is sponsoring its 42nd Annual National Checker Tournament,
which will be held July 14-18, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, 6201 Joliet Road,
Countryside, Illinois. The tournament is being hosted by the
Homan Square Pool Checkers and Chess
Club of Chicago
(HSPCCC).
The APCA has
been in existence since 1966, and has chartered clubs in various cities
throughout the country. The primary objective of the APCA is to afford people
of all ages (young and old) the opportunity to play structured, analytical, and
advanced checkers in a competitive manner, to build character, self-esteem, and
self-worth.
HSPCCC has a
great desire to mentor, teach and reach the children and youth of our city, and
it provides free Chess and Checker lessons weekly to all who come. Lessons are
taught by the reigning National Checker Champion (Al Lambert), the Club’s Chess
Champion (Ernest Lee), the Founder and former Club President (Charles
Thompson), the current Club President (Stoney Burke), and others. Even though
the participants are very competitive-- respect, dignity, and good
sportsmanship are required, which are essential components of our program. Our primary
goal is to help the participants grow and develop their skills to his or her
full potential, while learning and having fun. HSPCCC is located at: 3559 W.
Arthington St. (Club Room # 3), Chicago, Illinois 60624; Telephone: (312)

from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
We are
soliciting your support and any financial contributions you may be able to give.
Please consider taking an ad (see attachment) for our National Tournament
Souvenir Booklet. (All ads must be in no later than May 15, 2008).
